Cable Car

The cable car runs every 10 minutes from 7am in the morning until 10pm at night on weekdays from the middle of Lambton Quay. The third stop is the closest stop to the university which is by Kelburn park requiring only a short walk up the hill in the morning. The cable car also has much cheaper tickets for students with valid student id cards. An individual trip is $1 and a ten trip is $9.

Walking

Walking to the university is the third option for those who like to start their day with a brisk morning walk. Being Wellington pretty much the whole way up to the university is uphill and will be accompanied by a stiff wind to keep it interesting. Walking directions are included below, it should take about 30 minutes, but quicker on the way back.

Parking

There are two hour car parks on Kelburn Parade and Glasgow St. There is also coupon parking in Kelburn which gives about 3 hours free parking to begin with, but the whole day requires a coupon. Coupons can be purchased from local dairys and shops in the area such as UniStop on Campus and the shops in Kelburn Village.

You can also park in the Victoria University of Wellington Students Association (VUWSA) carpark for $10 a day. You will need to visit VUWSA, on the bottom floor of the Student Union building, with your vehicle's registration details, and the date range you wish to park for. This process can be make quicker by contacting VUWSA ahead of time.
