The ECS Māori Digital Lab

Te Pataka is a digital Māori lab that is committed to cultural research and innovation. Working in partnership with Māori communities, the lab aims to create interactive, immersive and intelligent experiences that iare founded on principles that are responsible, reciprocal, and respectful during the creation of digital artefacts. A collaborative space where experts in culture, software engineering, design and computation theory work together to develop tools and resources that make Māori accessible to a global audience.

We conduct socio-technical research in partnership with indigenous communities across Aotearoa and beyond. Our multi-disciplinary expertise spans the breadth of computer science and software engineering such as computer vision; human-computer interaction; cybersecurity; artificial intelligence; virtual reality; and, electronic engineering.
