Software-Defined Networking is a computer network approach that separates the control plane from the data plane in network switches. A logically centralised data plane and higher-level interfaces provide a means for taking advantage of this separation to provide network operators with programmability, flexibility and a global network view. Thus areas such as network management, security and QoS can be addressed with consistency in mind.
