School of Engineering and Computer Science - Tutor Application

Each trimester, the School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) recruits and upskills tutors to support student learning and academic success.

Tutors play a vital role at the University. They assist with running labs, delivering tutorials, marking assignments, providing helpdesks support, monitoring class forum pages, and more.

To become an ECS tutor, applicants must have good results in Engineering and Computer Science courses. Students must be in their second year or higher to be considered for tutoring positions.

You may select any number of courses you feel confident tutoring.

Rates of pay range from approximately $27.90 to $30.90 per hour, depending on your qualifications and experience (including the number of semesters you have tutored at VUW), plus 8% holiday pay in addition to your hourly rate.

Successful applicants will be notified by email approximately 1–2 weeks before the start of the trimester. You may follow up on your application by emailing .

Please ensure your application includes:
  • Your current enrolment status at the start of the trimester.

  • Any previous tutoring experience, including details of the courses you’ve tutored. Please also mention how many trimesters you have tutored so far.

There are two rounds of selection:
  • First round deadline: 4th May 2025 – Applications received after this date will be placed in a reserve pool and considered if needed.

  • Second round deadline: 1st June 2025 – No applications will be accepted after this date.
