Abstract

Abstract

As part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD (Thursday 16 May 2024) there will be a Guest Lecture for SWEN 303 (User Experience Engineering).

This talk will include:

  • A basic overview of screen readers for Windows and mobile platforms
  • Screen reader interactions with websites and apps
  • Screen readers meet web content: the good and the bad

Bio: Lauren is a creative and passionate Digital and Arts Accessibility Consultant, who divides her time between Australia and Aotearoa new Zealand. Lauren has over eight years experience in collaborating with organisations to review and provide guidance on best practice regarding accessible and inclusive design of products and services. As a freelancer, Lauren has significant experience in providing technical and advisory support to not-for-profit, disability, arts and community organisations, including Arts Access Aotearoa, Melbourne Fringe, Canva, the Show me Shorts Film Festival, and the Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts. When she is not auditing websites or helping artists to make their work accessible, you will find Lauren checking out live concerts and theatre, learning Welsh, or exploring local cafes.
