Abstract

Memory is one of the fundamental functions that enables people to carry out their daily lives and recall events. An impairment in memory can affect the quality of life as it limits the ability to store and recall important details and experiences of life. Memory impairments can range from mild to severe conditions, and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is one of the early signs of severe memory difficulties. It is a stage where the cognitive functions of individuals are visibly impaired but not severe enough to affect their activities of daily living. Interventions designed for memory training at this stage can play an important role in maintaining the memory function and slowing the progression of the impairment. Research has found that physical activity is effective in supporting cognitive domains such as memory and thinking. However, existing memory training interventions both digital and non-digital often lack engagement and combination of memory training with physical activity. This research proposes a memory training intervention using Augmented Reality (AR) combined with physical activity for adults with MCI to maintain memory function. The results of the research are expected to provide evidence of the effectiveness of combining memory and physical activity through AR, and contribute to the field of cognitive health by evaluating user experience and the results of AR-based memory training.
