Abstract

As part of the VUW Digital Health meetup we are having another meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to hear a few presentations and discuss current research projects, grant funding, and potential collaborations.

First Talk - Dr Darren Hooks, Cardiologist Title: Cardiac Rhythm Management: MedTech Opportunities from Cell to Bedside

Darren is a Cardiologist at Wellington Hospital, specialising in arrhythmia management. He worked at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute from 1998-2007 as PhD student and post doctoral fellow, and has ongoing applied research interests in medical technology and cardiology. He is keen to facilitate links between academia, industry, and the hospital in Wellington.

Second talk - Hamish Dunham, PhD candidate Title: Aptamer-based Biosensor to detect free amino acids in human fluids

Hamish Dunham is 3rd year PhD candidate in Biomedical Science at VUW, developing an Electrochemical Aptamer-based Biosensor to detect free amino acids in human fluids, his research is in conjunction with AuramerBio Ltd and funded through a Callaghan Innovation R&D Fellowship Grant. He has a double BSc in Psychology, and Molecular Bioscience. He works part time at Fertility Associates Wellington as a legal witness and lab technician, he is also the Industry Liaison for Chiasma Wellington. In his spare time he enjoys playing music as well as repairing, modifying and tinkering with computers, automobiles and instruments.
