FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 1, 2025 MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF Mapping and Transformation Project Releases Phase I Deliverables The MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF* Mapping and Transformation (MARC2RDA) Project is pleased to announce the successful completion of its first phase. This open-source project began in 2021 at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, and has evolved into an independent, volunteer-led initiative. The aim of the MARC2RDA Project is to create a robust mapping and transformation between legacy MARC21 Bibliographic records and LRM/RDA/RDF. Phase I focused on mapping and converting MARC21 Bibliographic fields considered core in the PCC Bibliographic Standard Record (BSR) for single expression manifestations and select aggregate manifestations. In other words, this first phase has addressed non-aggregates and simple augmentation aggregates. Records for resources not addressed in Phase I are filtered out of the transformation and not processed. . MARC2RDA Project Phase I outputs provide critical infrastructure and sample data for LRM**-compliant linked data systems across the global library community. The project benefited from active engagement by an international team of RDA**, cataloging, coding, and linked data experts, as well as support from staff and students at the University of Washington Libraries. The team welcomes ongoing exploration, community feedback, and contributors interested in lending a hand with Phase II.
Deliverables of Phase I Include: * A GitHub release featuring: * MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF mappings as .csv files * MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF Transformation, including: * XSLT stylesheets * Documentation for running the transformation * Extensive project documentation in support of further development and community engagement * Transformed MARC21 Bibliographic records output as LRM/RDA/RDF, including: * Subsets of records from the Library of Congress, University of Washington Libraries, and National Library of New Zealand * The full set of transformed records is available as a triplestore * A web-based transformation tool for use with small sets of records, which does not require users to download or run the full XSLT transform on their own For more information about project deliverables, please visit the MARC2RDA Project Landing Page.<https://marc2rda.info/wiki/doku.php?id=start> Phase II of the MARC2RDA Project will start in November 2025.
