ALCTS webinar: WebDewey Number Building Tips and Tricks

 

Date: Wednesday, March 23, 2016

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.

 

Description:

WebDewey has some exciting and useful features for users of the DDC. Attendees will learn how to use WebDewey to most efficiently build numbers when needed using the Number Building Feature. They will also learn how to create User Terms and to create and use institutional and individual Comments to share local practices in classification.

 

Learning outcomes:    

At the end of the webinar, attendees will understand how to build Dewey numbers according to the editorial rules and save them for use across the institution. They will also be able to create meaningful User Terms for individual and institutional use. Finally, they will learn how to create and use user-generated Comments to preserve and share local practice decisions in classification.

 

Who should attend?  Library personnel who use WebDewey for classification

 

Presenters:

Libbie Crawford is currently the Product Manager for the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system and was one of the designers of WebDewey. She has worked for 15+ years with the DDC at OCLC and was previously at SOLINET and has worked in both academic and public libraries. She has been an adjunct instructor for the University of Alabama and holds an MLIS from the same institution. She currently resides in Dublin, Ohio.

 

Caroline Saccucci is the Program Manager and Section Head of the Cataloging in Publication (CIP) and Dewey Section at the Library of Congress. Prior to this, she was a CIP Program Specialist and cataloger in the U.S. General Division. Caroline is active in ALCTS, including serving as the Dewey Liaison to the CaMMS Subject Analysis Committee. She is the LC representative to the DDC Editorial Policy Committee. Her MLS is from Simmons College.
