Kia ora Jessie,
Excited to hear that you're delving into map cataloguing - I have found it to be a lot of fun. I use DCRM(C), or Descriptive Cataloguing of Rare Materials (Cartographic), because it's a thorough standard specifically for older maps, is available online via PDF, and has plenty of examples. When reading it through the first time, skip the prefaces and head to Chapter 0 and have a skim through. It's a bit of a nightmare to read online, so when it's safe to do so I'd take it to a Warehouse Stationery and get it printed and bound, if you decide to use it.

I've also found two videos online which might be useful - a recent one from February this year on the basics of map cataloguing with SELFLIN, and then a more specialised one on Special Collections maps from ALCTSCE, which is always my go-to for handy lectures. I hope some of these resources are helpful, and I'm interested to see what others suggest :)

Warm regards, and stay safe all,

Subject: [CatSIG] Cataloguing maps
Hello all
Later this year I will be going through the collection of old maps (mostly local to Hawke's Bay) that we have in our stack with the view of getting them catalogued and therefore accessible for our patrons. I would imagine that some at least would turn out to have full records in Te Puna/OCLC. However, some may require original cataloguing. I don't have any experience of cataloguing maps - only some theoretical knowledge from back when I did my library studies. Does anyone know of short courses or can recommend a book that would give me enough knowledge to do a reasonable effort if some do require original cataloguing?
