Subject: [rdaaust] Update to the RDA Toolkit
An update to the RDA Toolkit will be rolled out on Tuesday, April 10 -- this update is primarily for RDA and Library of Congress Policy Statements (LCPS) content, but there
will also be a few functionality changes as well.
http://www.rdatoolkit.org/content/369
RDA content: This is the first major update to RDA content. Over 140 instructions will
be changed-- some changes are the result of the traditional proposal method, but there are also 65 changes from the JSC's new "Fast Track" change process. Most of the changes that are the result of the proposal process will be marked in the RDA Toolkit with
an Update History icon. The Fast Track changes, which by their nature are for addressing more minor issues, will not be marked with icons.
Particularly noteworthy changes include:
--new optional addition for supplying the name of a higher jurisdiction as part of a local place of production, publication, distribution, and manufacture (cataloger judgment)
--revised instructions on the omission of initial articles in preferred titles, the names of certain persons, and corporate bodies (The article omission is now an alternative
rather than the primary instruction)
--revised instructions to remove "field of activity" as an element that can be added to an authorized access point for a person (field of activity can still be recorded in
MARC field 372)
LCPS content: The April 10 release will also contain 36 LCPS updates, including 10 new LCPSs.
Some changes are due to new or revised RDA instructions. For example, instructions for treating some persons and families as creators of serials will be deleted from the LCPS because the instruction has been added to RDA.
The next update to the RDA Toolkit is currently scheduled for May 8, 2012.
