Hello All, I hope that no one objects to me replying on your list, but I kind of feel almost a Kiwi because of all the workshops I have done in your lovely country. :-) But do tell me if you would rather I stayed out of your discussions, please. As we discuss in the workshops, remember that the 490 field *can* be keyword indexed, but *cannot* be browse indexed because it does not contain an established heading of a series (the series added entry), it only contains the series information as it was presented on the item (the series statement). If you want to provide browse searchability for a series, then (as Janess has admirably outlined), you must *add* an 8XX field with the appropriate established heading for the series, ideally taken from the appropriate series authority record so that: Authority record heading in a 130 is copied as a series added entry in a bibliographic record as an 830 Authority record heading in a 100 is copied as a series added entry in a bibliographic record as an 800 Authority record heading in a 110 is copied as a series added entry in a bibliographic record as an 810 Authority record heading in a 111 is copied as a series added entry in a bibliographic record as an 811 I hope this helps, Deborah ------ Deborah Fritz MARC Database Consultant The MARC of Quality www.marcofquality.com Voice/Fax: (321) 676-1904

Unsearchable without an 8xx tag is my experience with Spydus. Julia

Am I correct that the 490 still isn't searchable? That would be a major drawback. Cheers Andrea
