News from the JSC (now RSC) meeting in Edinburgh.

The National Library of Scotland (NLS) hosted the annual meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) 2-6 November 2015. RDA is a standard used in the NLS and libraries around the world to improve access to their collections.
The JSC has evolved in the joint Anglo-American library community, and its current members hail from Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK, and the United States. The Edinburgh meeting marked the beginning of a four-year transition to a new structure that reflects international and technical interest in the standard, signified by new UK and Europe representation and a change of name to RDA Steering Committee.
53 observers from 18 countries (Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, and Wales) attended public sessions of the meeting. The formal meeting was accompanied by a full-day seminar on rare library materials, and the RLS-athon - a hackathon for data about Robert Louis Stevenson and his works which meant that over 100 Library and Information Professionals attended RDA related events in Edinburgh.
Gordon Dunsire, Chair of the RSC, said "Our meeting came to Edinburgh, my home town, by tradition but will leave it with a new name and direction to make a way in a wider world. I am proud of the support from my national library and professional colleagues that helped make the Edinburgh meeting enlightening, adventurous, and successful in its outcome."
Simon Edwards, Chair of RDA Board, said "It was great to see so many colleagues attend the RSC and related meetings. We would like to ensure that all RSC meetings in future follow a similar pattern; providing opportunities for the wider community to come together and to engage with the development of RDA. With this in mind, I am pleased that the next steering committee meeting will be held in Frankfurt and I look forward to meeting more of our colleagues then."
