After the feedback from last year’s Cataloguer’s Day, CatSIG is looking for expressions of interest in the following course so that we can decide what training to provide for the membership this year.
Are you interested in taking part in a second Kiwi “Jane-athon”
either before or after the LIANZA conference in September in Christchurch?
The purpose of the workshop is to catalogue an author’s resources with software specifically designed to use RDA: Resource Description and Access
(i.e. RIMMF -
RDA in Many Metadata Formats).
In addition to building practical experience with "native" (not MARC-based) RDA, participants will explore the very real issues inherent in using Resource Description Framework (RDF) statements in aggregated “packages” ready to contribute to the Linked
Data world.
The first New Zealand workshop used the works of Maurice Gee, but other events have used different authors including Jane Austen, Robert Louis Stevenson and Agatha Christie. For a full list of “X-athons” (including the first Kiwi Jane-athon)
see: http://rballs.info/xathons/
You must be prepared to be an active participant. You don’t have to be an expert in either RIMMF or RDA, but you should come ready to work with both. Preparing for this event may involve downloading the RIMMF software to a laptop, using
the software following a series of tutorials created by the RIMMF designers and bringing the laptop, and some examples to work with, to the event.
Please email expressions of interest and enquiries to

The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday
3rd March 2017
