WELCOME by Janet Copsey, University Librarian, The University of Auckland; NZ representative on the OCLC Asia Pacific Regional Council; incoming Chair of Te Puna Strategic Advisory Committee (TPSAC) for 2010.

 

10.05am - 10.30am 

Vic Elliott, Director, Scholarly Information Services and University Librarian, The Australian National University; Vice Chair, OCLC Asia Pacific Regional Council; and a delegate for Asia Pacific on the OCLC Global Council will present on the new OCLC governance structure, the development of the OCLC Asia Pacific Regional Council, its achievements to date, and current issues.

 

10.30am - 12 noon

Karen Calhoun, OCLC Vice President, WorldCat and Metadata Services: "Library as Place, Place as Library: A Dialogue on Duality and the Power of Cooperation".   Karen will also allow time for questions and discussion at the end of her presentation.

 

Abstract:  This talk will explore the turbulent conditions in which libraries are evolving as both places and virtual spaces on the Web. How are these conditions driving change in library collections, catalogues, and cooperative systems? What are OCLC's strategies for helping today's libraries gain visibility and impact through cooperation and data sharing?  If we were building a system for library cooperation today, what would it look like?

Chris Thewlis, OCLC Regional Manager, Australia: WorldCat Local and other web-scale management developments from OCLC.

 

2pm - 2.45pm

Ksenija Obradovic, Cataloguing Manager at the University of Auckland Library and Karen Rollitt, National Library of NZ to talk about the Osmosis initiative being sponsored by the Te Puna Strategic Advisory Committee.   

 

2.45pm - 3.15pm 

Linda Hall and Andrew Prout from National Library of NZ to present on access to NZ publications that are preserved in the National Digital Heritage Archive without copyright restrictions.   Linda will present from a selection and acquisition perspective and Andrew from the technical perspective.
