Assistant Librarian – Cataloguing Department

Are you an experienced original cataloguer with an interest in new developments in information technology related to cataloguing and who enjoys working in a team focused environment?

The University of Auckland Library’s Cataloguing Department catalogues a full spectrum of library resources, from rare books and manuscripts to a rapidly expanding network of electronic resources. The Department is also engaged in numerous digital initiatives designed to provide access to a full array of scholarly information.

We are seeking someone with knowledge of the following cataloguing standards and tools: AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LCNA, DDC22 to catalogue book, non book formats and electronic resources. If you have used the cataloguing modules of OCLC and Voyager and have knowledge of other classification schemes such as LC Classification and standards such as Dublin Core, or Encoded Archival Description that would be an advantage.

You will also need good communication and interpersonal skills, excellent written and spoken English and an eye for detail and accuracy in your work. If you have reading knowledge of other languages, especially European languages, and you are interested in new developments in information technology relating to cataloguing then we would like to hear from you.
