Bibliographic Services, National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa in association with CatSIG is pleased to announce a series of one day seminars on providing subject access to Māori materials and on cataloguing Māori materials.

Both Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku (Maori Subject Headings List) and the Iwi/Hapu Names List were developed as part of the Māori Subject Headings Project jointly sponsored by LIANZA, Te Rōpū Whakahau and the National Library.

The seminars will cover:

·         Introduction to Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku/Māori Subject Headings

·         Cataloguing Māori language materials

·         Assigning terms from Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku

·         Assigning terms from the Iwi/Hapu names list.

There will be an opportunity to practice applying these resources. Examples for discussion can be submitted beforehand.

The seminars are scheduled for mid-March 2007 and will be offered in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch, depending on demand.

Before we can confirm the exact details we need expressions of interest in attending. Expressions of interest will not bind you to attend, but will enable us to gauge demand.

The seminars will be free to CatSIG members. Members of LIANZA who are not CatSIG members, and others, will pay a nominal fee.

Please send expressions of interest (clearly indicating “Subject Access to Maori Materials” in the subject line) to Robyn East, Bibliographic Services, National Library of Wellington, robyn.east@natlib.govt.nz.
