I’m the cataloguer at the Far North District Libraries
and am struggling with the new series rules. Can anyone advise how the
490 and 8XX are to work?
My understanding is that the 490 tag is not
searchable. Therefore, an 8XX tag is used. Would this normally be
an 800 with the author’s name followed by the series title? When is
an 830 tag used?
What are you doing about a series that currently has 440 tag
and new items come in for the same series? Are you changing all the 440s for
that series to 490 and adding the appropriate 8XX tag?
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
