We provide an information and enquiry service for onsite Museum visitors and remote users of our services as well as supporting the research enquiries of the Museum staff. The Museum is investing in the wider provision of collections online, onsite and offsite. The Collection Description team now requires an experienced cataloguer on a two and a half year fixed term basis, who will be responsible for cataloguing the current and retrospective monograph collections, including books, pamphlets, and audio-visual material. Teamwork, excellent oral and written communication, research and interpersonal skills, initiative and self-motivation are competencies of the position. You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience with original cataloguing and copy cataloguing; and you will be physically fit as the position involves some use of ladders, stairways, compactor shelving and moving bookstock. The Library uses DBTextworks as its online catalogue although this will be reviewed as part of the wider digital initiative. Use of databases and familiarity with Library of Congress classification will be a strong advantage. Auckland War Memorial Museum is committed to a bi-cultural approach. An understanding of the application of the tenets of the Treaty of Waitangi is essential and competence in Te Reo is desirable.
