RDA (Resource Description and Access) workshop LIANZA is offering these workshops in partnership with the National Library of New Zealand, CatSig, The Open Polytechnic and Victoria University of Wellington. Workshop description Resource Description and Access (RDA) the new cataloguing standard and successor to AACR, is due for release in late 2009, signalling a new direction for cataloguing rules and catalogue records. This workshop aims to prepare cataloguers for RDA by presenting the following content: ● background and development of RDA ● introduction to FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) and (briefly) FRAD (Functional Requirements for Authority Data), the conceptual models that underpin RDA ● examination of the RDA draft highlighting key changes from AACR ● MARC and RDA ● RDA implementation - including timelines for publication and implementation as well as library systems Presenters Chris Todd, Janess Stewart and Charlotte Stretton are cataloguing team leaders at the National Library of New Zealand. All three have been monitoring the development of RDA and are reviewing the final draft. Two National Library staff will be present at each workshop. Additionally, Amanda Cossham from the Open Polytechnic will be presenting at the Christchurch and Dunedin workshops. A senior lecturer from the Library and Information Management programme at VUW will present at the Palmerston North and Auckland workshops. All five presenters are likely to attend the Wellington workshop.
