Hi All, Ksenija Obradovic of the University of Auckland, attended the 2010 ALA conference and in particular many of the RDA-related events at that conference. Ksenija's report can be found on the DescribeNZ wiki at http://www.describe.org.nz/ Since the publication of RDA, National Library senior cataloguers have been creating trial records, as Word documents, as a way of learning how this new tool works. We are also currently examining RDA core elements along with the core elements being used in the US national libraries test, to evaluate which elements we would use for NZ National Bibliographic records. When this work is closer to completion we will be making it available more widely. We anticipate that the results of the US libraries test may affect our decisions in this area. One of the challenges in using RDA is that many of the rules are so similar to AACR2 that it is perilously easy to miss the differences. A tool that we think will be useful to many libraries is the Library of Congress Train-the-Trainer webcasts. Although these were filmed in January 2010, and there are some differences between the draft and published versions of RDA, the videos give an excellent account of major differences in both approach and specific instructions between AACR2 and RDA.
