We are pleased to announce that the Māori Subject Headings project has completed another upload for Nov 2010 of new kaupapa/terms and changes to existing terms. These terms came from the work of the MSH Librarian and were viewed by the MSH Project Team at the third project team hui, held in September-October 2010. There are 25 new MSH that have been added to Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku and are ready for use in library catalogues. Ngā kaupapa hou / New terms * Āhuatanga pāpori = Social conditions * Eke ngaru = Surfing * Hahaupōro = Golf * Hangarau mōhiohio = Information Technology * Hinu kai = Food preservation in fat and oil * Huahua = Preserved fish and game * Ipurangi = Internet * Kaitūao = Volunteers * Kaupapa = Policy * Kerēme (Tiriti o Waitangi) = Waitangi Tribunal claims * Mahi tūao = Volunteer work * Mana whakahaere = Governance * Manaaki tangata = Counselling * Muru = Traditional plunder, Traditional restorative justice * Pārurenga = Victims * Pōhā = Kelp bags * Poi tarawhiti = Netball * Rokiroki kai = Preserved foods * Tahā huahua = Gourd containers * Tikanga rua = Biculturalism * Toko i te ora = Social welfare * Toroī = Fermented foods * Whakahāwea iwi = Racisim * Whakamātau hinengaro taiohi = Adolescent psychology, 12-16 * Whakamātau hinengaro taitamariki = Adolescent psychology, 16-21 Te mahi whakahou / Changes to existing terms A total of 19 existing terms have been amended, some of which have been changed significantly. These terms include: * Hara now covers crimes punishable by the law, and violations of tapu that breaks Māori customary lore; * Kāwanatanga covers Government: Its former meaning of Governance is covered by the new term Mana whakahaere; * Mātauranga hinengaro tamariki meaning Child psychology was changed to Whakamātau hinengaro tamariki, and now includes an age range of 5-12 years; * Mātauranga tikanga tāngata, meaning Anthropology, now has a Tukutuku of Take tikanga tangata; * Moheni, meaning Magazines, has been expanded to include all types of Periodicals, Journals, Magazines, and Serials; *Take tikanga tangata, which was an established term used for Anthropology, is now a Tukutuku of Mātauranga tikanga tāngata. Some other terms have minor changes, and these can now be viewed at http://mshupoko.natlib.govt.nz under Changes to existing terms, November 2010. Concluding hui of MSH project team for 2010 Following the success of the third MSH Project Team hui, the team decided to meet again before the close of 2010 on 2 & 3 December. New terms and changes to existing terms agreed upon in this meeting will be uploaded sometime in the New Year.
