FW: [rdaoceania] Request for feedback on proposals for July RSC meeting
Kia ora koutou, Below are three new proposals that will be discussed at the July meeting of the RDA Steering Committee. Let me know if you have any feedback on these, or if you have any questions. The first is of interest to cataloguers of rare books who use the RDA edition of DCRM. Ngā mihi nui, Bridget CatSIG ORDAC representative From: rdaoceania-request@nla.gov.au <rdaoceania-request@nla.gov.au> On Behalf Of Jack Ennis Butler Sent: Wednesday, 6 May 2026 6:08 pm To: rdaoceania@nla.gov.au Subject: [rdaoceania] Request for feedback on proposals for July RSC meeting Caution: This email originated from outside the organisation. HI everyone, There are three proposals due to be discussed at the July RSC meeting<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/news/rsc/save-times-rsc-public-sessions-april-november-2026>. * RSC/ExamplesEditor/2026/1<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/rscexampleseditor20261> * RSC/TechnicalWG/2026/3<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/rsctechnicalwg20263> * RSC/TechnicalWG/2026/4<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/rsctechnicalwg20264> RSC/ExamplesEditor/2026/1 - Proposal to revise the preferred order of recording sources for early printed resources in Data provenance: Recording a source of metadata that is a manifestation that is being described This proposal seeks to align the preferred order of recording sources with the RDA edition of Decriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials. It will be of interest to all those working with early printed resources. More information is available here: RSC/ExamplesEditor/2026/1 Ready for Community Consultation | ALA RDA Toolkit<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/news/rsc/rscexampleseditor20261-ready-community-consultation> RSC/TechnicalWG/2026/3 - Resource-to-resource digest, review, and critique elements This proposes to remove soft deprecated elements from the Official Toolkit used for relating resources to other resources. The proposed elements to remove are extremely granular and in many cases superfluous. More information is available here: Latest News on Soft-deprecated Terms | ALA RDA Toolkit<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/news/rsc/latest-news-soft-deprecated-terms> RSC/TechnicalWG/2026/4 - Soft-deprecated elements specific to content and carrier types In proposal recommends removing elements that relate only to specific carriers. These are considered to be redundant in the content as they are adequately covered by RDA Carrier Type and other elements. More information is available here: Latest News on Soft-deprecated Terms | ALA RDA Toolkit<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/news/rsc/latest-news-soft-deprecated-terms> Please send me your feedback by 22 June to ensure we can compile all responses effectively. I will schedule an online drop in session Friday 5 June at 1 pm AEST if anybody would like to discuss or provide non-written feedback. I will send out more details the week before. I also wanted to flag that amendments proposed by ORDAC received through community feedback were successfully adopted at the April meeting for RSC/TechnicalWG/2026/2 Soft-deprecated elements: “Details” elements<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/rsctechnicalwg20262>. Community feedback was also taken onboard by the RSC regarding RSC/TranslationsTLO/2026/1 Proposal on adding new elements, applicable to rare and old materials, to the RDA Toolkit, the corresponding new definitions to the Glossary, and the corresponding new properties to RDA Registry<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/rsctranslationstlo20261>. We anticipate a follow-up proposal will be compiled shortly to take account of the points raised. This is a great reminder of why your feedback is so important. More information about recent developments including links to recorded can be found at the page RSC News | ALA RDA Toolkit<https://www.rdatoolkit.org/rsc/news> As always, don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. Best wishes, Jack Jack Ennis Butler Oceania region representative to the RDA Steering Committee
