Call for Papers: Doctoral Symposium
Goals
The goal of the Doctoral Symposium is to provide a forum in which PhD students can present their work in progress and to foster the role of MODELS as a premier venue for research in model-driven engineering. The symposium aims to support students by providing independent and constructive feedback about their already completed and, more importantly, planned research work. The symposium will be accompanied by prominent professors in the field of model-driven engineering who will actively participate in critical discussions. The workshop lasts for a whole day and will be able to accommodate 6 to 8 students.
Scope
The technical scope of the symposium covers all topics of MODELS 2011.Submissions
Submissions are invited from PhD students who have settled on a PhD topic, but are still sufficiently far away from completion to be able to take full advantage of the given feedback (typically, this means that, at the time of the symposium, students should be at least one year away from completion). Submissions must be in English, no longer than eight (8) pages in the Springer
LNCS
style, and include a title and the full contact information of the author (name, email address, and postal address). Submissions must be made using
EasyChair.
Submissions should describe research-in-progress that is meant to lead to a PhD dissertation. The submission should use the following structure, describing:
- Problem: The problem the research intends to solve, the target audience of this research, and a motivation of why the problem is important and needs to be solved.
- Related work: A review of the relevant related work with an emphasis of how the proposed approach is different and what advantages it has over the existing state of the art.
- Proposed solution: A description of the proposed solution and which other work (e.g., in the form of methods or tools) it depends on.
- Preliminary work: A description of the work to-date and results achieved so far.
- Expected contributions: A list of the expected contributions to both theory and practice.
- Plan for evaluation and validation: A description of how it will be shown that the work does indeed solve the targeted problem and is superior to the existing state of the art (e.g. prototyping, industry case studies, user studies, experiments).
- Current status: The current status of the work and a planned timeline for completion.
Review and Evaluation
Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, correctness and clarity. Each submission will receive at least 3 reviews. Admission is limited to 6 to 8 Ph.D. students. Specifically, the review criteria committee using the following criteria:
- Overall quality of the submission itself (e.g., clarity, and precision, relative to the stage of the research)
- Adequacy of the problem statement, the solution description, the expected contributions, the plan for evaluation, and the review of related work.
- Originality of the proposed solution
- Significance and relevance of the problem and proposed solution to both theory and practice in model-driven engineering

Proceedings
Accepted papers will be published as workshop proceedings and made available on the World Wide Web.
