Accommodation
Students who register can choose to stay at Pipitea Marae, located at 55 Thorndon Quay, Thorndon, Wellington. The Marae has toliet and shower facilities as well as parking available. The marae will provide mattresses, mattress covers, pillows, and pillow cases. You will need to bring a sleeping bag or some other bedding and be warned, it may be starting to get a bit chilly in Wellington in April! The accommodation at the marae will be a group sleeping situation and we will all be sleeping in the same (large) room. There will be some parking available outside the front of the marae. Please don't park on the grass in front of the marae.
Getting to Victoria University
There are three options for getting from the Marae to the University:
- Bus
The Marae is located less than 5 minutes walk from the main bus station shown on the map below. A number of buses can be caught from the station to the university including the numbers 17, 22, and 23. Information on the Wellington bus timetables can be found at http://www.metlink.org.nz/
- Cable Car
The cable car runs every 10 minutes from 7am in the morning until 10pm at night on weekdays. The third stop is the closest stop to the university which is by Kelburn park requiring only a short walk up the hill in the morning. The cable car also has much cheaper tickets for students with valid student id cards. A one way trip is $2 and a return trip is $3.50.
- Walking
Walking to the university is the third option for those who like to start their day with a brisk morning walk. Being Wellington pretty much the whole way up to the university is uphill and will be accompanied by a stiff wind to keep it interesting.
