ELEN 301: Analogue Electronics

2009 Trimester 2

ELEN 301 CRN 17174, 15 Points (2009 2/3)
Coordinator: Dr Robin Dykstra
Lecturer: Dr Christopher Hollitt
Prerequisites: ENGR 201, MATH 206;
Restrictions: PHYS 341
Lectures: Tue 2-3, Wed Thu 3-4 timetable
Prescription: This course expands on ELEN 201, with an emphasis on developing analogue circuit design skills and applying them to the design of electronic instrumentation. The course begins with a survey of practical power supply designs, followed by an introduction to multi-transistor circuits. The differential amplifier is discussed as the basis of the operational amplifier. Laplace transform techniques are covered to provide a strong grounding in the understanding of frequency response and to assist in the analysis of transistor and operational amplifier circuits.
