As you may have noticed, the former Library of Congress subject heading ‘Illegal aliens’ has now been replaced by two new terms ‘Noncitizenshttps://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85003545.html’ and ‘Illegal immigration’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000739.html.
There have also been changes to several related terms. The term ‘Children of illegal aliens’ has been replaced by ‘Children of noncitizens’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000741.html and ‘Illegal immigration’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000739.html while ‘Women illegal aliens’ has been replaced by ‘Women noncitizens’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000740.html and ‘Illegal immigration’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000739.html. Likewise, ‘Illegal aliens in literature’ has been replaced by ‘Noncitizens in literature’https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2016000795.html and ‘Illegal immigration in literature’.
The former term ‘Aliens’ has now been replaced by ‘Noncitizenshttps://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85003545.html’.
At the National Library of New Zealand, we have been changing terms in our bibliographic records to match the new authorised terms.
