Tēnā tātou katoa We are pleased to announce that Ngā Upoko Tukutuku, the Maori Subject Headings project has completed another upload of new kaupapa/terms. These terms came from the work of Te Whakakaokao, the Māori Subject Headings Working Group, at a hui held in late November 2017. There are 15 new terms that have been added to Ngā Upoko Tukutuku and are now ready for use in library catalogues, and a number of changed terms. We welcome requests for new terms. These include: Kuputaka (Glossaries), Pūrongo (Reports), and Tuhinga nā te hunga taiohi (Young adults’ writings). New terms relating to data (Raraunga) and data sovereignty (Mana raraunga) have also been created. We have significantly revised and updated the scope of the term Takatāpui, which encompasses Rainbow communities, Genderqueer, LGBTQI, and other gender identities as self-identified by these communities. There is now a term for Kāinga, defined as a contemporary term for home or residence. Terms have now been added for the human embryo, Kikiri, and the human foetus, Kukune tangata. We also now have a term for microorganisms, Moroiti. A new reo-ā-iwi term, Mounga has been added, which is the Taranaki term for mountains. We have also updated the Ngaati Maniapoto reo ā iwi terms to incorporate double vowels rather than macrons, as reflects local practice. We now have a term for Speakers, Kaikōrero, and Kaikaranga, the woman who performs a karanga. We have created a term for mist, Kohu, with the appropriate relationships to the atua Hine-pūkohu-rangi, Tangaroa and Papatūānuku.
