Computer Graphics Research Group
We are the largest computer graphics research group in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our group has particular strengths in real-time computer graphics, virtual reality, character animation, rendering, computational photography, image and video analysis and editing, parametrization of 3D surfaces, modelling 3D curves and surfaces, 3D TV, the aesthetics of graphics, and visual perception. Our computer graphics researchers teach courses in the
undergraduate and
postgraduate computer graphics programmes developed in conjunction with visual effects studio Weta, game developer PikPok (Sidhe), and advanced technology company Unlimited Realities.

Wellington — the Creative Capital of New Zealand
We work within the active ecosystem of Wellington's creative community. Within the
University, we collaborate with the
Miramar Creative Centre, the
School of Design, the
School of English, Film, Theatre, and Media Studies and the
School of Psychology.
Wellington is home to the
Weta group of companies, including
Weta Digital,
Weta Workshop, and
Park Road Post Production. New Zealand has a dynamic
AR/VR environment, including
MIXT Studios and
8i in Wellington. Wellington is home to the largest New Zealand game company,
PikPok.
More broadly, Wellington is known as
the coolest little capital in the world. It is the home of Te Papa (the national museum and art gallery), Royal NZ Ballet, State Opera, NZ Symphony Orchestra, several professional theatres, and the New Zealand School of Music. Wellington is a city brimming with creative talent.
