Practical training for Official RDA - new NLNZ resources released

Kia ora koutou The latest release of our practical training resources in Official RDA is now available through Niche Academy. https://my.nicheacademy.com/natlib.gov.nz The tutorials in this release are: * Amalgamations * Cartographic resources (draft) The Amalgamations tutorial is part of our core practical training. It covers amalgamations that are a seamless mix of still image and text. The Cartographic resources tutorial is a draft and is missing several lessons which we plan to add after the next Toolkit release in February 2026. We have released this tutorial as a draft as we are aware that some libraries are well on the way to implementing Official RDA and may be interested in our thinking for describing this type of resource. As there are now a large number of tutorials they have been arranged in three categories. Training in the first category covers basic concepts. The second category is foundational practical training and assumes a good understanding of the concepts covered in the first category. Training in the third category covers optional additional formats. These are format-specific tutorials aimed at cataloguers already describing these types of resources and assume you have completed the training in the first and second categories so have a good knowledge of Official RDA. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 1, 2025 MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF Mapping and Transformation Project Releases Phase I Deliverables The MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF* Mapping and Transformation (MARC2RDA) Project is pleased to announce the successful completion of its first phase. This open-source project began in 2021 at the University of Washington Libraries in Seattle, and has evolved into an independent, volunteer-led initiative. The aim of the MARC2RDA Project is to create a robust mapping and transformation between legacy MARC21 Bibliographic records and LRM/RDA/RDF. Phase I focused on mapping and converting MARC21 Bibliographic fields considered core in the PCC Bibliographic Standard Record (BSR) for single expression manifestations and select aggregate manifestations. In other words, this first phase has addressed non-aggregates and simple augmentation aggregates. Records for resources not addressed in Phase I are filtered out of the transformation and not processed. The team welcomes ongoing exploration, community feedback, and contributors interested in lending a hand with Phase II. Deliverables of Phase I Include: * A GitHub release featuring: * MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF mappings as .csv files * MARC21 Bibliographic to LRM/RDA/RDF Transformation, including: * XSLT stylesheets * Documentation for running the transformation * Extensive project documentation in support of further development and community engagement * Transformed MARC21 Bibliographic records output as LRM/RDA/RDF, including: * Subsets of records from the Library of Congress, University of Washington Libraries, and National Library of New Zealand * The full set of transformed records is available as a triplestore * A web-based transformation tool for use with small sets of records, which does not require users to download or run the full XSLT transform on their own For more information about project deliverables, please visit the MARC2RDA Project Landing Page.<https://marc2rda.info/wiki/doku.php?id=start> Phase II of the MARC2RDA Project will start in November 2025.
