Wheelers is a large New Zealand Library supplier providing outsourced selection, cataloguing and processing services for public libraries throughout New Zealand. We are currently based in Glenfield on Auckland's North Shore. We are a growing business and we are seeking qualified, experienced cataloguers for full-time or part-time work. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LCNA, and Dewey 22. RDA knowledge is desirable but training will be provided if required. Experience at original cataloguing and cataloguing of DVDs would be an advantage but not essential. Preference will be given to a cataloguer who is capable of working with differing client requirements and more than one catalogue system. For these particular vacancies, experience with Millennium and Symphony would be an advantage but training will be provided. The pay rate is competitive, and will be commensurate with skills and experience. Flexible family friendly working hours may be discussed at the interview. Applications close 20 January 2014. We are based in Glenfield on Auckland's North Shore. We have 2 vacancies for an Acquisitions/Cataloguing Assistant. One position is full-time and one is part-time. Responsibilities include creating orders, cancelling orders, approving invoices, accessioning (including editing item records), and printing spine labels on clients Library Management Systems. Experience in the Technical Service Dept of a library, in particular with Spydus, Symphony or Millennium, is desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided. We are seeking people able to produce highly accurate work efficiently in an open-plan environment. Constant improvement of systems and a positive attitude are essential. Tēnā tātou katoa We are pleased to announce that Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku, the Māori Subject Headings project has completed another upload of new kaupapa/terms. These terms came from the work of Te Whakakaokao, the Māori Subject Headings Working Group, at a hui held in September 2013. There are 25 new MSH that have been added to Ngā Ūpoko Tukutuku and are ready for use in library catalogues. Mahinga kai o te wai (gathering seafood) has been redefined as a narrower term of Awa (rivers), Moana (seas), Roto (lakes) and Kaimoana (seafoods). A new term, Mahinga kai o te whenua has been created to encompass land-based food gathering. · The narrower terms for Whāriki (woven mats) have been revised, and English notes have been added to clarify their meaning. These include Hei moenga, which is used for sleeping arrangements, Hei taupoki mō te hangi, which describes the hangi cover, and Whāriki wharanui, which is used for ceremonial mats. · Tangihanga (mourning ceremonies) now encompasses the terms Whakatakoto tūpapaku, used for the placement of the body, and Ki te kawe tūpapaku, used for customs around the placement of the body. · The terms relating to early childhood education have been revised to clarify their scope. An extra English Use For term, Early childhood education (Mainstream) has been added to Kura pūhou, and the English Use For term, Māori early childhood education, has been added to Kōhanga reo. Opportunity to attend CatSIG AGM at 2013 LIANZA Conference

Dear Cataloguing colleague, If you are going to be in Hamilton on Monday 21st October, please come along to the CatSIG AGM which is being held in conjunction with the 2013 LIANZA conference. You do not need a conference registration to attend the meeting, and are welcome to bring colleagues with you who are not yet CatSIG members. The AGM business will be followed by a panel discussing the implementation of RDA in New Zealand. The meeting will take place from 12.15pm to 1.30 pm in Brooklyn Two at the Claudelands Conference and Exhibtion Centre, Hamilton. Library of Congress website shut down

Kia ora At the National Library of New Zealand we've noticed that the Library of Congress catalogue etc is no longer available :-( http://www.loc.gov/home2/shutdown-message.html Due to the temporary shutdown of the federal government, the Library of Congress is closed to the public and researchers beginning October 1, 2013 until further notice. All public events are cancelled and web sites are inaccessible except the legislative information sites THOMAS.gov and beta.congress.gov. Original cataloguing in RDA - Hamilton course

Dear colleagues The National Library of New Zealand is planning to conduct a 2-day course Original Cataloguing in RDA following the LIANZA Conference. It will be held at the University of Waikato in Hamilton on 24 and 25 October, 2013. Two days is not sufficient to cover every aspect of RDA but the course will provide a starting point for original cataloguing in the new standard. It covers the basics of cataloguing using RDA with an emphasis on monographs. Content will be delivered using presentations, discussion and practical exercises. The course is built on materials developed by the National Library of Australia for their Resource Description and Access : train the trainer course. The course is being provided free but attendees are responsible for their travel related expenses. Copies of the full documentation will be made available online and should be printed out by attendees prior to the course. In addition, there will be precourse reading. Prerequisites It is expected that those attending the course have an excellent working knowledge of AACR2 and will have access to the RDA toolkit in their library by mid October 2013.
