CatSIG is offering two opportunities for sponsorship in the following cataloguing courses ***72272 Cataloguing and Classification This course builds on and enhances library skills by introducing you to the principles and practice of cataloguing and classification. It is designed to enable you to apply international standards in the creation of catalogue records. You will also be able to analyse the international standards and to develop a critical understanding of the contemporary issues affecting cataloguing and catalogue management. This course is run by the Open Polytechnic from July 2014 and is a distance learning course. The workload is approximately 12 hours per week CatSIG sponsorship will cover the tuition fee (New Zealand: $702.00) ***INFO 546 - Bibliographic Organisation Creation of bibliographic records for library resources, including: original cataloguing using FRBR, RDA, AACR2, MARC, DDC and LCSH; evaluation of bibliographic utilities as sources for copy cataloguing; next-generation catalogues; and managing cataloguing operations. Course runs in Trimester 2 (July to October) 2014 at Victoria University, Wellington. Students can study on campus or by distance. This paper can be completed as part of the Master of Information Studies or Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate of Information Studies programmes, or as a single Certificate of Proficiency (COP). The COP is suitable for * graduate librarians and information professionals wishing to update their professional knowledge, or extend it into fresh areas of information management. * graduates who are considering entry to the profession and want to experience postgraduate learning. NLNZ RDA Attributes policy

Hi All, The National Library has now added its RDA attributes policy to the RDA toolkit and this policy is available globally. It can be found in the RDA toolkit workflows under the title: NLNZ RDA Attributes Policy. We are also working on a policy document for RDA relationships and we will share that via the RDA toolkit when it has been developed further. In addition we have a number of RDA maps that we plan to share over the next couple of months. These will be available as RDA toolkit Maps and will all have titles beginning "NLNZ … " There are 2 maps available at present NLNZ Musical Sound Recordings and NLNZ Music Scores. These maps are slightly dated and we will be reviewing and updating them over the next few months. The release will include the RDA Update from the JSC. The Update will contain changes related to the approved proposals from the November 2013 JSC meeting. These changes are currently available in the "Sec final" versions of the proposals posted on the JSC web site<http://www.rda-jsc.org/index.html>. Typically releases occur on the second Tuesday of a month; however, due to the extent and complexity of this year's update we have pushed the publish date back two weeks. On April 15 we will publish an announcement describing the final contents of the release. Description This session will give an overview of the development, revision, and assessment processes for RDA, with a look at changes coming in 2014 and at possible proposals for consideration at the end of the year. Learning Outcomes Attendees will understand how changes are made to RDA and the LC-PCC Policy Statements, along with the time frames for getting changes approved and implemented. Who Should Attend? Catalogers and managers. Presenter Kathy Glennan is the Head of Metadata Creation and Enhancement at the University of Maryland and has more than twenty-five years of experience cataloging scores and sound recordings. She holds an MLS from UCLA. She has been actively engaged in the American Library Association's Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (ALA CC:DA) since 2005, where she has focused on the development of RDA in relation to music resources. During that time period, she served on the Joint Steering Committee's Appendices Working Group and the RDA/MARC Working Group. In addition, she recently completed three years of service on the Standing Committee on Standards of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC). In 2012 she chaired the Task Group to Formulate or Recommend PCC/NACO RDA Policy on Authority Issues. Wheelers is a large New Zealand Library supplier providing outsourced selection, cataloguing and processing services for public libraries throughout New Zealand. We are currently based in Glenfield on Auckland's North Shore. We are a growing business and we are seeking qualified, experienced cataloguers for full-time or part-time work. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LCNA, and Dewey 22. RDA knowledge is desirable but training will be provided if required. Experience at original cataloguing and cataloguing of DVDs would be an advantage but not essential. Preference will be given to a cataloguer who is capable of working with differing client requirements and more than one catalogue system. For these particular vacancies, experience with Millennium and Symphony would be an advantage but training will be provided. Wheelers is a large New Zealand Library supplier providing outsourced selection, cataloguing and processing services for public libraries throughout New Zealand. We are based in Glenfield on Auckland's North Shore. We have 2 vacancies for an Acquisitions/Cataloguing Assistant. One position is full-time and one is part-time. Responsibilities include creating orders, cancelling orders, approving invoices, accessioning (including editing item records), and printing spine labels on clients Library Management Systems. Experience in the Technical Service Dept of a library, in particular with Spydus, Symphony or Millennium, is desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided. We are seeking people able to produce highly accurate work efficiently in an open-plan environment. Constant improvement of systems and a positive attitude are essential. The pay rate is competitive, and will be commensurate with skills and experience. Flexible family friendly working hours may be discussed at the interview. Applications close 16 December 2013.
