[Apologies for cross-posting] The National Library is pleased to announce the release of a new bibliographic record service, a free service to all New Zealand libraries. This service will provide a monthly file of bibliographic records from the National Union Catalogue for fulltext items which are held in the National Digital Heritage Archive (NDHA) and are freely available. An added benefit is that each record contains a permanent link to the item in the NDHA. This link will not change so you can be assured that users will be able to quickly and easily access the digital item. Maori Subject Headings page on Describe NZ

Hi everyone, We have added a page on Describe NZ for Nga Upoko Tukutuku/Maori Subject Headings<http://nznuc-cataloguing.pbworks.com/w/page/47666034/Maori%20Subject%20Head…> which we hope will be a useful reference to cataloguers looking for the site or related information. Please note the request for feedback: we're developing some training in the use of the headings and would like to hear if there's anything in particular you would like us to make sure we cover. Feedback can be sent to reo(a)dia.govt.nz<mailto:reo@dia.govt.nz> Additionally, a question was asked at the CatSIG AGM about the availability of older records with Maori Subject Headings added retrospectively. TMQ cataloguing workshops - last opportunity to register

There are still a few places available for the following webinars being held next week: MARC21 IN YOUR LIBRARY This course is an introduction to MARC21 and how it is meant to work in a library automation system. It explains what the MARC standards are and how those standards tie in with our cataloguing rules (AACR) to help cataloguers create data that will function effectively in a library catalogue. Target audience: directors, reference people, acquisitions people, copy cataloguers, beginning cataloguers, and experienced but untrained cataloguers. There are two discrete parts to MARC21 in your Library: Part One of this course consists of a series of web-casts and web-based mini-courses and covers the underlying fundamentals of MARC and bibliographic information. RDA at ALA 2011

This was a real dive into the detail of RDA as it can be applied using the MARC21 format in our current library systems. The conference proper included an RDA update forum where the US national libraries' decision to postpone implementation of RDA until at least 2013 was explained and discussed. Another noteworthy topic at the conference was linked data. I counted 10 sessions that included mention of linked data and some delegates were calling this "the linked data ALA". Programme clashes limited the number of sessions I was able to attend, but I have followed up some of the presentations in my conference report. We are very fortunate that one of the key speakers on linked data at ALA, Karen Coyle, is a keynote speaker at this year's LIANZA conference. My third area of interest was subject access and I attended a number of presentations that were part of a two-day meeting of the Subject Analysis Committee of the ALCTS (Association for Library Collections & Technical Services). My main interest here was to find out more about the new genre/form headings being developed by the Library of Congress. The specific areas of interest for the National Library are headings for literature and music.
