Second Life is a 3D virtual world with over 1 million members. The Second Life Library 2.0, Caledon Branch Library, Teen Library, Consumer Health Library, and Medical Library provide library services to these members. The purpose of the Cataloging Group is to set up a cataloging system that can by used by library patrons inside Second Life to locate library resources, and to catalog Second Life library resources onto this system. We are looking for volunteers interested in cataloging and/or systems librarianship. You can work from anywhere and contribute as many or as few hours as you like. Hi We are looking at migrating our database from a DRA system to Voyager next year. We are looking at options for producing a file of authority records that match our bibliographic records, including the possibility of sourcing these from Te Puna or another agency. I'm told the Te Puna option is quite expensive, so we would be interested to hear of any library's experiences of other options, including costs, logistics and data quality. Hello Catsigers On the advice from Paul Staincliffe from University of Waikato I am repeating a question I posted on the AOTOCAT listserve this week. I hope that this is OK. Cheers, Lynette Oliver I am an assistant librarian in a small high school in New Zealand. I am studying cataloguing part time and am preparing a report on the pros and cons of cataloguing websites and including them in library catalogues. I was wondering if anyone would mind letting me know if they catalogue websites for their libraries and any problems they have, such as on-going maintenance, sites disappearing etc. Your opinions on the usefulness of having the sites available on the OPACs would also be interesting, if thats not asking too much. Colleagues The CatSIG AGM will be held during the LIANZA Conference, on Wednesday 11 October, at 12.30.
