Please find below further details on the workshop: Following on from Victoria Parkinson’s excellent Introduction to Cataloguing we would like to invite you to a cataloguing from-the-bottom-up session. We are librarians at Aberystwyth and while we are in no way art or cataloguing experts (!) we do love to talk about cataloguing. We will share cataloguing templates and information about the resource we plan to catalogue before the session so that you can work along with us. This is a session for beginners to ‘look over a cataloguer’s shoulder’ so no prior experience is needed. Amy Staniforth job shares as the Resource Discovery Team Leader at Aberystwyth University and is also CILIP Cymru Wales’ Relationship Manager. Simon French is a Subject Librarian at Aberystwyth University. There is not much call for cataloguing in his current role but he has, in the past, done some for “fun”! Lloyd Roderick is a Subject Librarian at Aberystwyth University who has done some cataloguing in previous roles. After assisting in a short term cataloguing project has become interested in how 'dabbling in' cataloguing can inform teaching information retrieval skills to students. Tēnā tātou The new and changed headings from the Huitanguru/Pēpuere/February Te Whakakaokao/Māori Metadata Working Group hui of 2021 are now available for use on the National Library website<https://natlib.govt.nz/librarians/nga-upoko-tukutuku>. Tukua mai ōu whakaaro mō ngā ingoa me tāpiri anō ki te paetukutuku! We’d love some requests for new terms! As always we'd like to hear any new suggestions you may have for the rōpū (group) to consider. It's a really easy process: if you're handling a collection item that is either in te reo Māori or has content about Māori, and you can't find an existing term in our thesaurus to suit your item, please email reo(a)dia.govt.nz<mailto:reo@dia.govt.nz> with your suggestion and the details of what you were working on. Suggestions where you don't know a Māori term are just fine. Our next hui will be 3-4 June, so this is the perfect time to send in proposals for new terms! The group has created a number of terms that may be useful in the context of educational resources. Marae ā-kura describes marae that are sited at mainstream schools and provide opportunities for staff, students and whānau to 'live as Māori' within a mainstream schooling context. Puritanga ākonga may be used to describe resources about student retention. Other new terms may be relevant when describing the process or results of research. Tirohanga Māori has been added to convey Māori viewpoints or perspectives while Mātau ā-wheako may be applied to resources exploring lived experiences. A new term has been created for exhibitions of installation art, Toi puni. This fills a long-standing gap in Ngā Upoko Tukutuku as the existing term for art exhibitions, Whakaturanga toi ataata, specifically excludes installations. Also in the field of artistic creation, Te Whakakaokao has created a term for short films, Kiriata poto. The group has received several requests relating to the concept of ‘engagement’. The term ‘Hononga hāngai’ has now been added to Ngā Upoko Tukutuku to convey the concept of effective engagement in the context of an equal partnership between peoples and institutions. Other new terms include Pou whenua (Boundary markers), posts which are placed prominently in the ground to mark possession of an area or jurisdiction over it. The term Whare rūnanga, or meeting houses, may be applied in contexts where a whare rūnanga structure has been specifically identified. Finally, Te Whakakaokao has begun to review terms and definitions relating to disability and special education. We have made some changes to the scope notes for Hauā and Hauātanga so that these are defined more appropriately and are discussing further changes. Nā ngā kaimahi o Te Whakakaokao

Description: The multi-year RDA 3R Project concluded in December 2020, with the "beta" Toolkit becoming the official version of RDA. One outcome of the 3R Project is that the instructions contain a significant increase in the number of options and other choices that cataloging agencies or catalogers must make, based on their interest in maintaining current cataloging practices, their implementation scenario, their collections, and their users’ needs. RDA has been developed to support the inclusion of regional and/or local guidance for catalogers, ranging from application profiles and policy statements to additional vocabularies and local documentation. RDA Steering Committee Chair Kathy Glennan will discuss the ways that regional and local cataloging agencies can implement their guidance into the Toolkit, providing catalogers with the practical information they need. Learning outcomes: At the end of this webinar, the attendees will be able to: · Understand the difference between "base RDA" and supplemental guidance available in RDA Toolkit. · Identify the different ways to include regional/local guidance in RDA Toolkit and the benefits associated with each choice. · Explain what types of content can be found in the Toolkit's "Community resources" section. Who should attend? Catalogers, cataloging policy creators, and cataloging trainers all need to understand how the new version of RDA can work for them. Presenter: Kathy Glennan (she/her/hers) currently serves as the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services at the University of Maryland. She has over 35 years of experience cataloging scores and audio recordings. Since 2005, Kathy has focused on the development of RDA: Resource Description and Access, with a special emphasis on music cataloging instructions. Kathy contributed to the implementation of a new governance model for RDA, including the establishment of the North American RDA Committee, for which she served as a founding member in 2018. Kathy commenced her 4-year term as RSC Chair in January 2019. Kathy has given numerous presentations on RDA, FRBR, LRM, and MARC Formats issues, including four ALCTS webinars relating to RDA.
