Cataloguing fiction intended for children and young adults

Kia ora koutou The National Library of New Zealand is changing its approach to subject headings when cataloguing fiction intended for children and young adults. For many years, we have followed the standards of the Library of Congress in its Children’s and Young Adults’ Cataloging Program (previously called the Annotated Card Program), using Children’s Subject Headings (MARC coding 650_1) in bibliographic records for this type of material. We have now decided to stop this practice, preferring instead to use Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT) and/or standard Library of Congress Subject Headings with the subdivision "Juvenile fiction" as appropriate. Changes to the Beta RDA Toolkit

Kia ora tātou I just thought I’d point out that there have been some helpful new changes to the Beta RDA Toolkit, live this morning! There’s now a persistent blue button taking you back to the top of the longer element pages, and the rather opaque Detailed, High-level and Parent element groups have been removed (as discussed at the CatSIG seminar yesterday). There have also been some layout changes, with instruction options highlighted more clearly. CatSIG AGM tomorrow

It is before our Professional Development Day. Everyone is welcome, you don't need to be registered to attend the Professional Development day to attend the AGM. Venue: The Te Wehenga and Malaga Pasifika rooms, Te Ahumairangi (ground floor), National Library, corner Molesworth and Aitken Streets, Thorndon, Wellington. Note: the main doors on the ground floor do not open before 9am. Access to the ground floor before 9am is either through the Home Café entrance on the north side of the building or by using the lower-ground floor entrance on Aitken Street.
