Tēnā koutou, The Collection Description team at the National Library of New Zealand is seeking the help of the wider cataloguing community. With the upcoming changes to RDA this is a useful time for us to get feedback on our data from other libraries. We want to understand what the cataloguers throughout New Zealand value and use in the bibliographic records the National Library creates for our national bibliography, Publications New Zealand. If you do use our bibliographic records in your catalogue, we would really appreciate you taking the time to answer our survey. The survey should take between ten and fifteen minutes and responses from more than one cataloguer at your institution are welcomed. The DescribeNZ moderators group have been working hard on updating the DescribeNZ site last year so it meets the current needs to New Zealand cataloguers. With the introduction of the IFLA Library Reference Model and the start of the 3R project this seemed like a good time to refresh the content on the site. http://describe.org.nz <http://describe.org.nz%20> We have added a search box and streamlined the navigation to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. We would love to hear from you if you think there is some content that would be useful to other cataloguers, especially those new to the profession, that could be added to the site. We would like to invite those individuals currently working in public, academic, school, or special libraries, or an archive or museum, whose official job duties include cataloging, primarily using “traditional” library cataloging standards, such as Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC), Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd edition (AACR2), Resource Description & Access (RDA), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Classification (LCC), and/or Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), to complete the following survey: https://dom.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_71xtQqZHnwHQkFD We would like to learn more about how catalogers perceive cataloging ethics, the most important ethical issues they face in their work, and how they address these issues. Western bias in the RDA Toolkit

The international RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloguing rules are undergoing some significant changes in order to reflect changing metadata standards and the shift towards linked data. The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) is seeking input from indigenous cataloguers around the world to help identify and eliminate areas of Western bias within the language and conceptual structure of the draft rules. We would love to hear from cataloguers who identify as Māori, Pasifika, or other indigenous affiliation, and who would be interested in contributing to this work. The National Library of New Zealand sits within the Information and Knowledge Services branch of the Department of Internal Affairs. Our branch is all about connecting New Zealanders to trusted information. This role sits in one of the monographic cataloguing teams within the Content Services directorate of the National Library. Content Services is responsible for acquiring and describing the published collections of the National Library of New Zealand, including the Alexander Turnbull Library, and creating and maintaining New Zealand's National Bibliography. As a Collection Description Librarian, you will make a big difference to how people access and use the published collections by creating high quality, accurate descriptions of resources.
