Notice of CatSIG 2009 AGM

The CatSIG AGM will be held at the LIANZA conference on Monday 12 October, at 5.30 pm. The agenda will be distributed to all CatSIG members closer to the time. As at previous conferences the CatSIG AGM is a chance to socialise with fellow cataloguers and meet some committee members. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the implementation of RDA in New Zealand. Everyone is welcome. CatSIG membership is not necessary and you do not need to be registered for the conference (however, if not registered, you may not attend other conference sessions, social events or enter the exhibition area). CatSIG is also looking for new committee members. Being a committee member is a good way to become involved in a professional development activity, and does not involve a huge time commitment. Book Blitz 1 (4 days) A beginner’s workshop on bibliographic description, providing access points, and copy cataloging. Covers the "easy" cataloguing rules. Highly valuable for experienced copy-cataloguers, and those with some experience in original cataloguing. In search of spare copies of DDC

[Apologies for cross-posting] Got any older copies of DDC - 20th or 21st edition - that are surplus to requirements? I have 64 students in my cataloguing class this semester (a record!) and we are short of copies of DDC. If any library has any that they no longer require, the students and I would be most grateful if we could have them - either as a long-term loan (until mid November) or permanently. The Open Polytechnic library has 29 sets, and some students use their own libraries' copies, but there is still a short-fall. Maori Subject Headings Update and blog

Apologies for cross-posting Tena koutou katoa, The Maori Subject Headings Working Party met for the second time this year on 6 & 7 August. As planned at the May meeting, the group focused on some new headings requested in the area of health. There is one more meeting of the group planned before Christmas and the thesaurus will be updated with all 2009 changes in early 2010. At the 2009 LIANZA Conference there will be a workshop looking at the future development of the headings. We really want to generate some discussion so we've set up a blog to ask for your opinions on some of the big issues. Whether you are coming to Conference or not, we'd love to hear your thoughts, so please have a read and join the discussion by posting your comments and questions. Starting Monday 31st there will be a new question each week for four weeks, so spread the word, join in, and have your say. Te Puna monthly reports

Good afternoon cataloguers, Do any of your libraries notify Te Puna of your additions and deletions by monthly report? Our LMS is Horizon, and I believe that none of the other NZ Horizon libraries do this. But I am hoping that even though your LMS may not be Horizon, that the process will be similar enough to give us some clues as to how we can do this on Horizon.
