[Apologies for cross posting] Tena koutou katoa, We had a wonderful time at conference, talking to those of you who could make it to the session - not nearly enough time for all the discussion we could have had. We also had a fabulous time at dinner at the Yellow Cross in SOL Square. Conference is now over, but here's one last chance to have a say. Two new posts have been loaded to the blog (http://upokotukutuku.livejournal.com) - one including the powerpoint and speaker notes used at the Conference Workshop, the other containing a summary of the feedback received from the attendees. If you have any comments, any ideas, any solutions that you would like to share, we would love to hear them. You have until 5pm Friday 30 October to comment on the blog, then we will be taking all of the ideas and shaping them into a proposal to present to the governance group for them to consider by the end of the year. Remember that you don't have to sign up for anything to comment, just click on the 'comment' button and away you go. We're excitedly looking forward to seeing your feedback. RDA Update from CatSig at LIANZA

RDA Update from CatSig Meeting 12 October 2009 Publication The RDA text was handed to the co-publishers on schedule on 22 June. RDA is scheduled to be released in December 2009. Initially it will be online only, and while it will be possible to print from the online product, it is being designed to be used online. A print version of RDA, which people have asked for, would require a new editing process as RDA has been designed as an online product. Pricing The pricing for RDA has not yet been determined, but we understand that the publishers are looking at a range of options, taking into account factors such as the size of libraries, consortial licences, etc. It is not known if there will be a free trial period. We understand that the Library of Congress hopes to incorporate it into Cataloger's Desktop, but this is unlikely to happen at initial release. International activities RDA list - remains active with discussion of the potential impact of RDA on catalogues and cataloguing US National Libraries RDA Test The test period will begin after the test partners receive access to RDA Online. There is no indication at present that this will be before official release so we assume December 2009 Test Days 1 through 90: Test partners use this three-month period to become familiar with the content of RDA and with navigating RDA Online. Test Days 91 through 180: Test partners produce records in the test and share them with the US National Libraries RDA Test Steering Committee. Post-Test Days 1-90: The US National Libraries RDA Test Steering Committee analyzes the results of the test and prepares its report to the management of the three national libraries. After Post-Test Day 91: The report is shared with the US library community. MARC Proposals to cover new fields and subfields to accommodate RDA have been approved, but are not yet live in MARC. New fields developed for content type carrier type and media type (replacing General Material Designation). Subfields apply in a number of fields, including relationship designators that can be added to name headings. Some of these have been approved and we expect them to be published in the October 2009 MARC update. NLNZ activities 1. Monitoring lists and posting to CatSig 2. NLNZ implementation plan - by Dec. 2009 - this plan will cover 2 aspects of implementation First aspect: RDA records and the NUC - Scale and impact of MARC changes - Publicising changes & when they will be implemented in the NUC - Assessing effect of changes on import/upload of bib records & informing libraries (including OSMOSIS) Second aspect: Use of RDA as a bibliographic standard - Detailed examination (post-publication) - Decisions around options within RDA & making these available - use the Cataloguing Wiki for this and other exchanges around RDA? - Internal training Chris (Christine) Todd Team Leader, Cataloguing Team 1, Content Services, National Library of New Zealand. New Cataloguing Standards and new wiki resource for New Zealand cataloguers

Apologies for a resend Please find the corrected URL for the wiki in this message, Karen Dear Cataloguers New Standards for New Zealand National Union Catalogue and a new wiki resource Since 2008 a TPSAC commissioned Expert Working Group for Cataloguing has worked on revised minimum standards for the National Union Catalogue (NUC). This work is now complete and the new standards for cataloguing to the National Union Catalogue are completely up-to-date. They reflect the latest developments in international cataloguing standards and best practice. In addition they also include the requirements for OCLC Cataloguing Standards and the OSMOSIS Service. Whether you use the National Union Catalogue services, OCLC services for WorldCat or your own library catalogue, they will help your library create good catalogue records. TPSAC is keen that New Zealand libraries and cataloguers start using the new standards. To help you with this the revised standards are available on a wiki developed by the Expert Working Group especially for New Zealand cataloguers. The wiki provides: · information about NUC and partners · the new NUC catalogue standards · latest news and events · quality in cataloguing · an interactive space to receive updates, comments or ask a question. The standards are available at http://nznuc-cataloguing.pbworks.com If you would like to view the standards as a single document they are also available on the National Library website at http://www.natlib.govt.nz/catalogues/library-documents/cataloguing-standards OCLC will profile the new standards via webinar training for New Zealand libraries in October and November this year. Use of a single set of high quality catalogue standards will benefit all New Zealand libraries by making resources easier to find and catalogue records easier to use and reuse. Hi all Sorry if you couldn't open the previous email's attachments. Removing the CatSIG logo from the documents has resulted in them being a much smaller size! You don't need to sign up for anything, just hit the "leave a comment" box and you're ready to go. And if you've still got something to say about questions 1, 2 or 3, don't forget you can still add to those too. This is your last chance to put your thoughts out to the community before the LIANZA workshop. This Friday 25 September we will close off all comments to the blog so we can prepare for the workshop session in Christchurch.
